Deftones hope to release new album in early 2012
Deftones are planning to begin work on the follow-up to last year's Diamond Eyes this summer and are looking at an early 2012 release. In a recent interview, frontman Chino Moreno reveals the band will start writing in between summer tour dates. He says, "We're going to have a month off, but in that month, we're talking about going in and starting to write again, maybe even two or three weeks in a rehearsal spot just recording ideas and keeping it going. So if all goes well, hopefully we'll have some product for early next year." They're planning to record album no. 7 with bassist Sergio Vega, who filled in for Chi Cheng after he was severely injured in an automobile accident in 2008. Moreno says that Cheng is still in a "semi-conscious state" and not able to communicate, but the vocalist says Cheng is showing improvement.
Deftones will finish their current tour in mid-June and are set to play Lollapalooza before the Leeds and Reading festivals in the U.K.
